About Movement Island

Movement Island was founded by Danica Bianchi, a Sports Scientist and movement coach, with a vision to help people build strength, confidence and lifelong movement habits through enjoyable, evidence-based coaching.

We believe movement should be challenging, playful and accessible. Everyone progresses at their own pace — whether you are learning your first handstand, getting stronger, improving your mobility or simply discovering what your body is capable of.

Every session is grounded in evidence-based coaching, with a focus on technique, steady progress and safety. Progress matters more than perfection, and the environment is built to be supportive rather than competitive.

Today Movement Island offers weekly classes, private coaching, workshops and group experiences across Malta.

Founder of Movement Island • MSc Sports Nutrition

Danica's movement background began in artistic gymnastics, which shaped both how she moves and how she teaches — patiently, in small steps, with technique first. That foundation still runs through every class she coaches, from handstands and partner acrobatics to strength and mobility.

She went on to work in Melbourne as an education manager, an experience that turned out to matter as much as the coaching itself: it taught her how people actually learn, how to structure a session so progress is visible, and how to keep a room of mixed abilities moving together.

Academically she holds a BSc from the University of Malta and an MSc in Sports Nutrition from Maastricht University. The founding belief behind Movement Island comes out of both halves of that background: that coaching should be grounded in evidence, and that people stick with movement when they enjoy it — so the two belong together, not in tension.
